This site styles itself "The guide to alternative New York."
Reviews of Art, Theater, Film, Dance, Radio/TV, Music.
Poking around, I came upon their "Destroy our logo" feature.
What's that?, I wondered.
Turns out they "spent about 30 seconds making our logo - and it shows!"
So they invited their readers to do better, and promised to pick the best one and use it.
Up top is the current one.
Or, I should say, one of them. More on that in a minute.
Here's
the original one they hated.
But here's what's really cool: they tricked out their logo on the home page so that if you simply run your cursor over it - don't click on it - it morphs into one after another of the various alternatives submitted.
The whole collection of submissions, along with their own failed attempts, is on the "Destroy our logo" page.
All this is very interesting to people like me who haven't a clue how to do computer design-type stuff.
Full disclosure: the now-iconic bookofjoe logo and background were chosen from the "no-brainer" TypePad template choices when I signed up in January.
