'I am an addict'

Herringtoncatalog_1826_8484107

Yes, it's true.

And I'm not ashamed to admit it.

My addiction: booklights for reading in bed.

I buy them all, then toss them in the trash or give them to friends.

Because they're never what I want and need.

Getting what you want and need is sometimes important.

I mean, the Rolling Stones did a whole song exploring this concept.

You can't always get what want

And if you try sometime you find

    You get what you need

But I digress.

Booklight issues always revolve around lack of brightness, instability, or ugliness.

I guess I had no choice but to order the one pictured up top (I chose grey as opposed to the blue one pictured).

It's $24.95 here.

"Sure-Grip clip attaches firmly to any book."

Looks fairly compact (runs on 3 AAA batteries).

Three LEDs, the number in this device, are the minimum required for in-bed reading, in my humble opinion.

More is always better, but it's a trade-off between the number of LEDs, battery size, and battery life.

This illuminator is said to provide 70 hours of light from a set of batteries.

We will see, won't we?

Probably not, actually, 'cause if it's as big a flop as every previous one of these pretenders to the in-bed booklight reading throne, it'll be in use no more than 10 minutes before I toss it over the side.

Hi; I've just discovered your blog, and we are kindred spirits! I, too, am on the quest for the perfect light that will serve my reading needs while not disturbing my sensitive husband. What has been your opinion on the Everest reading light? The Lightwedge?? Any successes??????

Joe, have you ever tried one of these "Lightwedge" things? http://www.lightwedge.net/ The Usual Disclaimers, etc -- I got one for my wife a few years ago and she seems reasonably happy with it (she still uses it, at least). It may or may not be to your liking -- I just haven't seen you reference it before.

I just returned what I thought were pretty good booklights to QVC. (I returned them because I wanted something bigger than booklights.) They set up on their own or clip onto your book and work with an adapter or 3 AA batteries. They're full-spectrum light which my friend claims allows her to read without her reading glasses.

I sure like my torchier + aimable reading light bedside lights. I think I got them at some fancy lighting store--the lights are halogen--but they sure do the job. No complaints from the bed partner either.
