Ringtones are now a billion dollar a year business, with nothing but upside.
In the U.S., as usual a year or two behind the cellphone curve, they accounted for about $300 million dollars in sales last year.
Funny, isn't it, how the music business has its knickers in a twist about how it's being/been destroyed by piracy, yet somehow the ringtone dealers have been able to make serious cash off those very same tunes, dumbed down and simplified?
There's a lesson here.
Too bad I can't figure it out: if I could, I'd be planning my first trip aboard Richard Branson's Virgin Galactic instead of trying to decide if tonight's Tootsie Roll Pop should be chocolate or orange.
Ringtonia.com is the website for everything ringtone related: find out what the rest of the world is up to, and where we late-adopters here in the U.S. will be circa 2006.
I really like the word "ringtonia": reminds of dystonia, hypotonia, all the medical tonias.
