BehindTheMedspeak: Personal In–Flight Air Filter

1aa_1

After the Sharper Image Ionic Breeze dust–up you might think I'd steer clear of anything to do with air filters and their ilk.

And you'd be right except yesterday while I was sitting here doing something close to nothing (but different from the day before) I happened on the AirRight website.

AirRight has created an in–flight air filter (above) which purportedly removes "99.5% of bacteria and viruses from the passenger's personal air space."

The disposable device contains a filter good for four flights.

The AirRight attaches to the air vent over your seat and lets you direct the air stream just like the nozzles on planes.

It's due in airport stores on July 1; you can buy one from the company for $7.99 here or by calling 800–327–6151.

So why does this item get pride of place here on bookofjoe, one of the most exclusive websites in the web–o–sphere?

Hey, "web–o–sphere" — I like it.

Memo to crack research team: trademark/copyright that word instanter.

Now where was I?

Oh, yeah, why AirRight's in bookofjoe: it's because of the wonderful cartoon (below) atop the company's website.

I just love that lady in the last seat, totally gorked out by the contaminants showering down on her.

And the cartoon helped explain it more too - I was imagining a ventilator-looking contraption plugged into the air vent. That looks a little less obvious than I had imagined. But I haven't found much personal space of any kind on airplanes - much less air.
