Pour–Off Sieve
Now here's something I could've used since a long, long time ago.
I've long since lost count of the forearm and hand burns incurred and sink disasters resulting from failed attempts to drain hot foods.
But as George Eliot wrote, "It is never too late to be what you might have been."
So in that spirit I think I'll buy one after I finish this post.
The 13" stainless steel device drains water from pasta, vegetables or whatever else you might happen to be preparing.
The shape enables it to work with a wide variety of pots and pans.
$14.99 here.

1)F. Scott Fitzgerald said there are no second acts in American lives. Does George Eliot trump him?
2) It'll take a long time to drain a pot of pasta through this sieve. Plenty of time for steam burns. I still use a collander, but another option for big volumes is a pot with a pasta insert. Lift it out and prop it on top of the pot while it drains. Dump the water after it cools. Added benefit, if you need some pasta water to dilute a sauce or fettucine Alfredo, it's right there waiting.

Joe,
Being an owner of such a device, I would suggest that pot holders still be used cause that stainless steel heats up faster than you imagine...
