World's Scariest Tennis Court

It's not even close.

Above and below, the helipad of the Burj Al Arab Hotel in Dubai.

The court is 700 feet high.

I must say that you wouldn't see me having a "friendly" or anything else on that court.

The out of bounds area looks frighteningly small: what if you were sprinting all out for a lob that was bouncing high near the back line?

Man overboard!

"I mean, I could have sworn he was there last time I looked, just a second ago...."

The Dubai Duty Free Men's Open began in 1993.

Catchy name, what?

I'm surprised they haven't yet twigged onto the American college football bowl scene: The Duty Free Bowl — not bad, eh?

Like all my ideas, it's there for the taking at absolutely no cost to whoever wants it.

And, like all my ideas, it's worth exactly what you paid for it.

Yeah, I've been there too. It's so freaking gorgeous, you can't get the full idea in pictures. The world's only 7-star hotel AND the world's tallest hotel as well.

Dubai rocks!

And, no, I'm not an Arab, just so we're clear about my objectivity.

The tennis court was only put there temporarily for a promotion. Normally it's the hotel's helipad.

I've been there... nice place. All rooms are duplexes.

They also have a beautiful seafood restaurant built under the hotel (under sea level) that you get to via a virtual submarine.

The Building itself is pretty darn amazing. It has the worlds largest man-made atrium, and an entire side of it is made solely out of fiberglass fabric.

Looks like a large body of water down below so missed returns and bad shots probably aren't much of a problem. I have an Irish friend who teaches in Dubai. Very wealthy country; people there can easily afford those rates.

Unless I am missing something, it must rain tennis balls on those below? Almost any winning shot must propel the ball into space and given wind conditions it could go anywhere. Hope their in-house medical clinic fees are more reasonable than the room rates...

That is absolutely terrifying. I have a pathological (I guess) fear of heights. And I mean ten feet is enough. What is that, anyway? Is it genetic?

Anyway, I felt the exact same dizzy, queasy, rubbery-legged unstable feeling I get when dealing with the real thing. I can't believe mere PICTURES made me feel like that. Amazing.

Correct is ". . . at absolutely no cost to whoever wants it."

I thought I would share a top down view of the hotel:
