BehindTheMedspeak: China's Internet Addicts
The BBC reports that internet addiction in China is rampant.
The country has just opened its first internet addiction treatment clinic, in central Beijing.
BBC correspondent Daniel Griffiths reported that all 15 patients being treated at the time of his recent visit were young men.
Well, that's no surprise: as the Buddhist saying goes, "Those who live by the water, die by the water."
The internet addicts undergo a two–week course of therapy (above) involving medical treatment, psychological counseling and daily workouts.
Dr. Tao Ran, the clinic's head, said the scale of the problem was enormous.
Next year the clinic will undergo a huge expansion, adding 200 beds.
New clinics are also due to open in Shanghai, Guangzhou and other major cities.
And joeTV hasn't even begun.
Just wait — they're going to have to create whole compounds to house overdosed Chinese joeheads.
