Furnituremaker Jake Cress is a piece of work
Cress insists he's a cabinetmaker and not an artist but others disagree: his work's been shown at the Smithsonian, among other venues.
Above, his "Oops" chair.
His website is chock full of interesting information.
If you're at all interested in furniture or its care you could do worse than to wander around and see what's in the dusty nooks and crannies.
Among other things, he builds "animated furniture."
Below, "Self–Portrait."
He lives in Fincastle, Virginia, a very small town about 30 miles north of Roanoke (map below).
He even has a Bed & Breakfast in the Victorian wing of his 19th–century house, and writes that "You would be welcome to stay while you consider the possibilities of wood."
You can call him at 540–473–2974; email him at questions@jakecress.com; or send him a letter: Box 76, 110 Roanoke Street, Fincastle, Virginia 24090.

Isn't his stuff great? I love wit where you don't expect to find it -- furniture, cooking utensils, gynecologists, anesthesiologists' blogs (ha ha).
