Finnish Birch Bark Engagement Ring
A reader in Finland sent me this link, which contains a link to a PDF file showing "A simple method of constructing a ring from birch bark."
The website notes that "The text [below]
is in Finnish but the sketches are self–explanatory."
So even if you don't have a dollar to your name, if you can find a birch tree you can still create a one–off piece of jewelry whenever the mood strikes.
The site notes, "There is a very old Finnish tradition of becoming engaged with a birch bark ring!"

This one will not go "down" with the locals. I am afraid it has already sparked quite a few fires. They are "seeing" red. So to speak. Making money from a tragedy. Hmmmm what a thought. Thanks for your book. Love the post about love. Also the engagement ring idea. What a nice thought. For some lucky woman to have a man make her a one of a kind ring. The world needs more men to think that way.
