Where are the rowing machines of yesteryear?
Last Sunday, May 21, fashion writer Guy Trebay wrote a great front-page story for the New York Times Styles section about his 24-hour sojourn at Crunch Fitness in New York City.
He wanted to see what a day in the life of a gym that never closes was like.
His article was great, full of tart commentary and original observations as is his wont: I consider him the best fashion writer on the planet.
The most interesting thing in his piece was an accompanying graphic (top) showing what machines people use most at the gym and how preferences have changed in the 18 years between 1987 and 2005.
What happened to rowing machines?
And what will be the elliptical of 2024?
There are at least two individuals on the planet who've known all along โ
maybe I'll have my people call their people.

Watch out for those elliptical machines. They'll mess you up! Ask a chriopracter, they'll just wince in response.
