What's this?

A breath mint?

Or a candy mint?

Or two — two — two mints in one?

Wait a minute....

Hit "restart," would you?

Thanks.

"By 2010 every business professional will have a video business card."

That's what the headline of the full-page ad in the May 1 Charlottesville Daily Progress Business Journal supplement said.

The chance of that prediction being correct is about one in a thousand.

And you know what a Pollyanna I am.

Long story short: up to now only large corporations could afford to make these giveaway CDs, which allow you about four minutes of video space to get your message across.

Me, I'd sing a song.

But you know me.

And once again I've digressed.

What with Moore's Law driving down the price of everything bit-related, "MyCdBusinessCard.com is now offering an introductory package of Video Business Cards for less than the average cost of a small color brochure."

It is a nice idea but I don't believe that most people would even take the time to watch this.

These things are like 10 years old.

And there are reasons they have never taken off...try slipping one into a cd slot and seeing how much its going to cost to fix the computer of the guy you were trying to get to buy your services.

Its crap.

On a side note, I use to collect odd shaped CDs and have a crap load of 3in CD Singles. Oddly, its cheaper to use an entire disc as opposed to making a smaller cd...even for the big guys. It saves some room on the shelves, but thats about it. Most of the 3in CDs I've found over the last few years have all been Japanese in nature. NiN's Broken originally came with an extra with Burn and another song (err...I think). And to complete part of my Prince collection, I picked up Alphabet Street on this as it contained a version of the song that I didn't own (I figure as a fellow Prince fan, you might appreciate that :P).

The point? Not one of these can play on any modern machine I own as I do not own any tray loading CD players. The best that I can do is to load it up in an old Discman I have as you can pop it right on the middle of the spindle. Unless of course you want to use an adapter -- and then you need to give all your clients on of these and you are back to having a CD the size of a normal one and thus not really all that cool.
