In response to the aluminium/aluminum question: having been exasperated one too many times by English people telling me I pronouced it wrong, I finally looked it up (I'm Canadian, by the way). Turns out the discoverer of said metal never could decide which way to spell it, and hence, pronounce it. He flipped-flopped a few times throughout his career. In the UK they opted for the extra letter, and in North America we opted for dropping it.

Now why some people over there pronounce it "mee-graine" as opposed to "my-graine" is beyond me.

How bout:

1) In Like Flint (correct: In Like Flynn, as in Errol)

2) Record Alblum (correct: album)

3) Butt Load (correct: Boat Load...I think)

They left out one of my favorites, "nip it in the butt."

As in, "We must nip this mangling of the English language in the butt."

*sigh*
