Ida Skovmand's blog

Tricky_1

Who is Ida Skovmand, you ask?

She's a 19-year-old Swedish girl in the fashion business who has somehow found herself in London, England.

She started her wonderfully-titled blog (above) back in September of last year, writing in Swedish.

Swedish

After her first post (above) she switched to English and has continued in her second language.

My first question: how is it that she can write better using a non-native language than 99% of those whose native tongue is English?

I'm just asking....

My second question: how much do you think I'll have to pay her to be an instructor at this year's bookofjoe Naming and Branding Seminar™?

A follow-up: do you think she'll be willing to fly business class or will I have to spring for first?

I recently travelled through Sweden where a friend told me that pretty much anyone under 50 years of age will speak English very well. I think it has to do with their compulsory English classes through-out high school. I wouldn't be surprised if these classes are better constructed than those in native English speaking countries - I got the impression that when the Swedes do something, they do it well.

BTW, it's not a myth the Swedish are a beautiful people - the girls and the guys are gorgeous. (And I highly recommend visiting Stockholm in the summer if you haven't already done so).

Just thought you would like to know that "Ida" is pronounced "Ita" with the "t" softer than a strong "ta dah." Very pretty sound in Swedish, according to my Norwegian-Swedish Lake Woebegon-escue in-laws.
