Crazy Glow Wild Wafer Lites
Color me confused.
Hey, what's new, joe?
Enough.
When I saw these in the catalog just now at first I thought they were a kind of nifty candy that makes your mouth glow.
They were on a page with those Glo-Sticks that you snap to activate.
And there's a picture in the catalog (alas, absent from the products' pixel iteration) of a girl with a goofy grin sticking out her tongue with one of these on it, glowing away.
So I figured, cool — Halloween cleverness.
But then I took a second look at the photo up top, with that little hole that looks suitable for a keychain or string or necklace or whatnot.
Then I saw in the fine print where it says "Non-toxic."
So I guess you're not supposed to eat them.
But then it says "Ages 5 and older."
Huh – that's over 85% of my audience.
But I digress.
As I say, I'm confused.
Do you chew them up and swallow 'em or not?
If you'd like to conduct your own investigation — with my standing offer to report your findings here should you wish — be my guest.
12 in assorted colors cost $12.95.
It just occurred to me that you could make some really funky earrings with these.
They're 2" across.
At $2.15 a pair it's hard to go wrong.

I read that as "Make some really funky earrings with /three/". Ah, I thought, Joe's got a right ear, a left ear and a WILD front ear!

Good for raves, for scuba night dives, for locating the friend who's saving a seat in the darkened theatre, for finding your keys in a big purse, for driving pets crazy... and, as my dad would say when I would ask the reason for something, "It's to make little boys ask questions."

It's a mystery to me. Maybe it is now important to have an orifice or two all aglow, and this is one means to that end. (Ouch.)
I tend to like all things glow-stick, and can't for the life of me figure out why no one has invented a popsicle with a small glow-stick tube in the center. Just because you have to break the thing to activate it, and that freezing it would inactivate it, and that those attributes would render it pointless and unworkable, well, that shouldn't stop anybody.
As an experienced migraineur, glow-sticks remind me of vivid migraine auras I've had. If they could only make them scintillate, I could have auras on command! Maybe they could be marketed to those whose migraines have been medicated away: Former migraine sufferers -- Thrilled to be rid of the headaches but missing those gorgeous light shows? Well, pine no more with the new Aura-stik Migraine Simulator....etc.
Well, I suppose they could coat them with gummi candy, making them bendable, hence breakable and activateable, and appealing to those who like their sugar straight-up and glowing. That'd be me.

The spoken word can now be highlighted. ;)
From the Glow-Gallery.com Web site: "The Wild Wafer is a brightly glowing mouth piece with a mini light safely encased in a FDA approved, food grade plastic. This unique mouth piece is choke test and toy test approved."
Consider this product a distant cousin to the braces-looking flashing/LED contraption that kids put in their mouth and attempt to freak other younger kids out when they smile.
And why let kids have all the fun? Adult sizes are available here: http://www.barproducts.com/index.php?link=Shirtszm_Hats_zg_Novelties.php
Wear it to the Halloween party...it's a weight-loss device. If you have the wafer on your tongue, you won't stand by the snack table and eat all night long. Glow-in-dark guitar pick. Use it for a keychain and find your keys buried at the bottom of your purse.
(By the way, I still don't understand what the hole is for. The other sites pictures don't have holes - just Oriental Trading.)
