Divina Roasted Red Peppers — Voted #1 by Cook's Illustrated

670410nbjnkj

When Cook's Illustrated, which accepts no advertising (reminds me of this whacked-out website I saw once... but I digress) writes, "Our favorite brand of roasted red peppers, Divina (made from Florina peppers, a type of pimento grown in northern Greece)," I sit up and take notice.

Continues the review, which appears in the current (January/February 2007) issue, "The Divina roasted red peppers... had a smoky, sweet flavor and tender, toothsome texture."

Put a jar or two in my basket, would you?

$4.84 for a 13 ounce jar.

I'm a bit surprised the Cook's Illustrated review doesn't mention paper towels. They may not take ads, but ever since America's Test Kitchen, their video arm, started getting grants from Viva paper towels this season, I've noticed there is a nearly infinite increase in the need for and mention of paper towels as they prep recipes on the program. What a coinkydink! Hey, even I can write that stuff: "Wash the chicken and dry it with paper towels, then set it on some dry paper towels. After you've put the chicken in the oven, wash your hands and dry them with paper towels. Wipe down the counter with a little diluted bleach on some fresh paper towels. Oh, and don't forget to add paper towels to your shopping list. In fact, for maximum something-or-other, our testers say should write your shopping list on a paper towel."

Now, whenever I see the line about how they don't accept ads, I think, "Oh, no, of course you don't. Heaven forfend!"
