What is the purpose of the advertisement below?
It occupied the entirety of page 5 in yesterday's New York Times Sunday Styles section.
At the very bottom, in very small type, is the following: RUNWAY.POLO.COM
Well.
I had my crack research team take a look — at the time they were busy doing something close 2 nothing (but different than the day before) and turns out the URL is an entrance to a website showing Ralph Lauren's Spring 2007 Collection.
But that still doesn't help me understand my original question, which is why I flagged the ad.
What is it selling?
Flautist?
Anyone?

it turned your head didn't it?

Beats me.
I would've put a pith helmet on her head.
I'm not wearing a turban, no way. But then, I gave fashion the finger way back in the fifth grade, when I learned how to sew and started making all my own clothes -- made things out of weird fabric combinations, like burlap and velvet, seersucker and dotted swiss.
My guess is that it's SO chichi, NOBODY knows what it is that's for sale, and THAT is what's for sale.
Oh, and none of us could afford it. That's all we need to know.

Much the same Joe. The ad is selling the suit and accoutrements. It says anyone who wears R. Lauren can look great and we are here to prove it. The late Sabu died at age 39 so this is best they can do.

great minds think alike, I guess. I couldn't make heads or tails of this ad myself.

Ah, the world of fashion avdertising. If you were to check out any fashion magazine all you'd find are ads that consist of a photo of someone wearing something and the logo of the designer. It's simple I-like-it-I-want-it advertising. You expected mayber something rational and informational?
