Watch arguably the world's best track meet of the year — today

It's the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Indianapolis.

The top three in each event go to the World Championships in Osaka, Japan August 25–September 2.

Why, then, is this weekend's event "arguably the best track meet of the year?"

Wouldn't it logically follow that the Osaka meet would be the best, since it will feature the top athletes from every country in the world?

Not necessarily.

Consider, for example, the men's 100 meters.

Up top are the current top ten runners.

Only three from the U.S. can qualify for the Worlds so two of the ten fastest on the planet will have to sit home like you and me and watch while all manner of (relative) slowpokes get to participate.

So it goes with many events.

And that is why today's meet is arguably the best one.
