'Beware of seriousness: it is a form of stupidity' — Alexander Waugh
It's my new favorite quotation, from a letter of Alexander Waugh to his 6-year-old son, and appears toward the end of his new book (above).
I happened on the epigram in Michiko Kakutani's June 19, 2007 rave review of Waugh's book.
Alexander Waugh (below)
is the son of the satirist Auberon Waugh and grandson of the novelist Evelyn Waugh.

We are on the same wavelength. I dug that same quote and put it on my blog a few weeks ago.

I'm sure there is a study out there concerning the relevance of humor to intelligence, however, it's Sunday evening and I'm simply too lazy to look it up because now is my time to relax. Observation of the absurd and relevant situational humor (I'm guilty of it too!) is a great stress reliever. Making other people laugh is one of the most wonderful things :) Not daring to preview this post because last time I did, I somehow managed to post twice which I think is worse than a typo!

Hunh. I must be a genius, then.
I really like that quotation. It kind of makes me think of one by one of my favorites -- Niels Bohr: There are some things so serious you have to laugh at them.
(Also by Bohr, two I like: Your theory is crazy but not crazy enough to be true.
and
You're not thinking, you're just being logical.)
