Joe,

The product is KNO3 - Potassium Nitrate. The theory is that you take a "dry" stump - drill some holes into the stump, solivate the KNO3 in H2O and saturate the wood with a chemical oxidizer. The web site says, "safe, effective chemical compound actually breaks down and decomposes unsightly stumps so you can easily remove or burn the remnants." NOTE the word "burn" - the theory is that a stump saturated with KNO3 does not require additional oxygen and a smoldering flame will consume the stump after it has taken up the KNO3 and dried out.

It doesn't work. How do I know? I tried it on a maple stump in my front yard - including using a 1" High-Power Hammer-Drill to drill the requisite holes into the hard Maple. I tried saturating the stump with Kerosene (per the package instructions) and ignited the kerosene. It went out. I put a whole BBQ Chimney full of red-hot charcoal briquettes on top of the stump - it charred the top 5 mm.

I paid a guy to grind it out.
