A neighbour's daughter knocked on our door a couple of weekends ago and asked if her mum could put a dead microwave and a dead DVD player in my trailer since it was full of crud ready for a trip to the dump. I told her it was OK, and the next day (it was dry overnight) I had a look at them. An hour later I asked her if she wanted them back since I'd repaired them both.
People throw stuff away without considering repair or re-use.
Join FreeCycle, that's what I say! I collected a pair of fluorescent lights for my workshop tonight and made arrangements for someone to collect a jetwash hose I'd rescued from a skip (US dumpster)the other day.
Google for your local FreeCycle and join in the fun.
