If you want a nice quiet spot in Barcelona, try to find the Plaza de Sant Felipe Neri. It has a lovely little fountain and the doors to the church are amazing. The history of the square is a little gruesome - they executed people there during the Spanish Civil War. You can still see bullet holes in the stone walls.

Anyway, to get there takes some wandering. We actually found it by accident and only later did I learn about it's history. Most sightseeing we did started in the Plaza Catalunya. From there, go towards the ocean on Avingunda del Portal del l'Angel veer left at the "Y" and stop at the Plaza Nova. Still facing the ocean, turn and face right. There is a big street (Carrer Boters) and then a little one a little below that called Carrer de la Palla. Immediately on your left is a little bunch of trees and hidden in there is the way back to the Plaza Sant Felipe Neri.

That was mostly off of memory and using, rightly enough, Google Earth. It might be a little off for anyone who's looking for the Plaza, but it will get you close enough. The best way to find it is to be willing to explore your surroundings.

Samara, Costa Rica. Excellent beach. Little town. Try Hotel Belvedere.

Care to share where in Costa Rica you ended up? It sounds like a great destination. Of course I understand if you feel like keeping it a secret. I have a favorite spot in Barcelona that is a secret (kinda) that I'll share if you do.

Last year about this time, I was using Google Earth one morning to fly up the western coast of Costa Rica. I noticed two beautiful half moon bays right next to each other. I zoomed in, found the name of the small towns, found a small hotel run by Germans, and then booked our Christmas vacation. My wife and I and four kids had an awesome time surfing in an beautiful place that I had never heard of.

Google Earth totally rocks for the traveling family. We are sailing in the Grenadines this year and the kids have scoped it out on Google Earth for potential remote coves for swimming and snorkeling.

Why eat food when you can just look at pictures of it? Why listen to the song when you can just read the sheet music?

Hell, using Google Maps is a perfect way to plan sightseeing.

Case in point, a few weeks ago, a friend was in town and we were talking about a place that we had gone as teens but didn't have much time to explore and figure it out from our faulty recollections. Sure enough, after an hour of searching different places, I could even see the slight mound where we buried the body (though I'm hoping the quicklime did the trick).

As a result, we made certain that our overnight camp was miles away in the opposite direction so that we wouldn't reinfect the area with traces of our existence.

Nevermind...
