"6. Computer software engineer (systems software)' is spot on, you mostly deal with a few manufacturer/repair techs and those -
"9. Computer software engineer (applications)" who are not quite so well off, occasionally having to deal with the dread users - lots of them. And try to figure out what the heck said users are talking about.

The article references the MBTI -- this is one of the greatest tools out there for things like this. Screw the Strong Interest Inventory and others like it (I think I still have my military exam they forced us to take in high school under the guise of helping us out in our post-HS future).

Personally, I would never push anyone toward the 'best-paying', but what do they want to do for the rest of their lives (and let them know this doesn't have to be forever...just for a reasonable amount of time). Money is always secondary...or at least should be. If you are good at something, the money will be there...unless you expect to be a social worker with six figures.

Sadly, my MBTI 15 years ago put me as a strong introvert. These days...it has almost flipped. Its a wonder I didn't want to put my head through a window while coding sooner.
