Since when did Ø = diameter?

Fgtyuhu5

Since two days ago when I saw it used that way on some website.

So elegant.

You make an Ø by holding down both the shift and option keys and typing an o.

I'm still enchanted by this.

It's the little things that make me happy.

Also, maybe that's a residential street sign symbol for "SLOW -- bald man with big metal rod stuck through head in area".

It could happen...

Interesting how all these guys are worrying over how you type that symbol, and here I am not possibly giving less of a s**t about that, which makes me wonder if it couldn't also be the sign for "old broad without the brains to give a s**t about how to make the computer type out the diameter/dead gladiator sign".

Hunh... I wonder if old Joe ever thought in a million years that his innocent little post would rack up eleven comments...

Huh. Well, good to know. Are you sure, though? I always thought it was Norwegian for "caution: disabled sphincter."

Oh yeah -- I whipped Sartre's ass in a spelling bee once.

there are a lot of other usage for Ø.
for instance, in roman mosaics, if placed beside a gladiator's name, it means he is dead.

No option key on PC. I think that to make a Ø on a PC you type Ctrl+/,Shift+O. Lowercase (ø) is just Ctrl+/,O.

Cool, right?
