Bladerunner EVK2M — (Every version known to man)
I was enthralled by this movie when I saw it in a theater in 1982, the year it came out.
Then sometime in the 1990s I watched the 1992 director's cut, which made much more sense but yet wasn't as compelling as the original.
Then last night I watched the 2007 final cut in high-definition, and once again I was in replicant heaven.
The soundtrack alone is one of my favorite CDs, and hearing it in Dolby Digital 5.1 along with the movie made it that much better.
For $24.95 you get an awful lot: 5 DVDs with all manner of extras including:
• Commentary by the director, Ridley Scott, and Syd Mead, Douglas Trumbull, Hampton Fancher and many others involved in the film's creation
• A feature-length documentary about how the movie came to be made
• The original 1982 theatrical version, the 1982 international version and the 1992 director's cut
• An "Enhancement Archive" with 90 minutes of deleted footage, galleries and featurettes
• The workprint version of the film

Here's something for your future thrill list: Rumor has it that Ridley Scott is going to direct a screen version of Joe Haldeman's Forever War, one of my favorite books. I know that the bar is set high with Blade Runner (in all it's version-ness), but my hope is for at least a close repeat of the brilliance brought together in that film with this new SF from uber-director Scott.
