Tell No One
I watched this movie
a few nights ago after it was recommended by a friend, though I'd passed on it when it came out last year after it got dreadful reviews in a couple newspapers I read.
Having enjoyed it immensely (it passed my functional watchability test* with ease), I nevertheless understood why it garnered some seriously negative reviews.
For one thing, it's confusing in a bad as opposed to a good way, i.e., you don't just shrug and think to yourself you'll figure it all out in the end but, rather, you're kind of frustrated, sure that you're missing something important in your bewilderment.
Second, the sound track is weirdly wrong for the movie, with all sorts of music that seems antithetical to a thriller. Very odd.
But I so enjoyed the wonderful camera work and France and great acting and cast, most of whom I'd never seen before — only Kristin Scott Thomas was familiar — that the film just carried me along like the waking dream that characterizes good cinema.
*Not stopping the DVD to get up and do any number of things like check my email, get some pumpkin seeds or a bowl of cereal, read the paper, etc.

Volcano Boarding at Cerro Negro
I need to get out more.
First I ever heard of this sport was when I read Laura Siciliano-Rosen's first person account of her experience at Cerro Negro in Nicaragua — the epicenter of this pursuit — in the April 19, 2009 New York Times Travel section.
Long story short: Don't — under any circumstances — hang ten.
