Old Time Radio

Wrote Dean Kaltsas, "Go to www.archive.org. Then search for the term 'OTR' which stands for 'old time radio'  and you will find a list of shows. In many cases in the upper right there is a player you can use to play the shows. You can also download the MP3 files of these shows. Fascinating stuff!"

There goes the day.

I was always a huge X Minus One fan. There's just something about that old Sci-Fi that I love.

If you want to get your pants scared off, or maybe scare off someone else's pants, search for "Lights Out, Everybody" on that website. There are more shows than you can shake a stick at, if that's your idea of a good time, so if you only listen to one thing, check out the episode labeled 1937-12-29 under the list for the first series.

If you'd rather keep your pants on, search for "Fred Allen" -- razor sharp wit, slippery getting past the censors, WAY ahead of his time, and influential even to this day. (The wikipedia entry has a good intro on him.) He's the guy who said "you can take all the sincerity in Hollywood, stuff it in a flea's navel, and still have room for three caraway seeds and an agent's heart."
