Grip-N-Twist Jar Opener
Reminds me of a space station astronaut's tool like those used on EVAs.

A friend taught me how to open tight jar and bottle lids a few months ago. I have now used the technique at least a dozen times without fail. I am amazed that I have lived a long adult live and never heard of this technique before. My life seems so much easier now! : )
The technique:
Turn the jar upside down and give a few solid whacks onto a hard surface. Obviously taking care not to whack so hard as to break the jar. Then unscrew the lid.
Good luck and be careful!
