I've Loved You So Long

I watched this movie last night but I can't recommend it to you even though I enjoyed it immensely.

Why?

Because not much happens.

Most people find movies like this, especially in French with subtitles as is the case here, boring and soporific.

Not me.

I was engrossed from the get-go and very much liked the fact that the first clue to the underlying premise of the movie didn't happen until about halfway through.

And the whole basis for the events that happen isn't revealed until five minutes before the end.

So I don't think you should watch it.

There's no sex, no violence, no bad language — it's rated PG-13.

Like I said, you'll be less than interested.

Besides which, the characters — apart from the lead, played wonderfully by Kristin Scott Thomas in what has to be her least glamorous role ever (by a long shot) — for the most part live pretty ordinary lives and wear boring clothes and drive boring cars like Volvos.

So if you don't listen to me and go ahead and watch it anyway, well, fair warning, seems to me.

If I was to say something like, "Oh, you foxy clever old bastard!" would I get shunned and banned and stuff? I mean it in a good way, an affectionate way, of course, because I want to see that movie now, a lot. And I don't like Kristin Scott Thomas at all much. Very adroit and sneaky of you.
