Frédéric Malle patents "Smelling Column"

1103vain

Wrote Patricia Marx in the November 30, 2009 issue of the New Yorker about Malle's newly-opened Manhattan branch (above) of his Paris-based perfume company, "Malle dislikes perfumeries that smell like duty-free shops, and so he has patented a glass-and-steel contraption that redresses this problem. It is called the smelling column, and it looks like the Orgasmatron from 'Sleeper.' 'They are to fragrances what mirrors are to garments,' Malle said. Demonstrating his invention, he opened the door of one—there are three in the shop—spritzed a blast of Fleur de Cassie inside, and instructed me to step in and take a whiff. Post-sniff, he pushed a button, and voilà, the scent was sucked away."

Library in a phone booth

Shades of Marcel Duchamp.

Long story short, from the BBC: "A traditional red phone box [above] has been recycled into one of the country's smallest lending libraries — stocking 100 books."

Better: "The traditional phone box was bought from BT for £1."

Broto de chá (Tea bud)

1111111

From Bem Legaus!:

••••••••••••••••••••••••••
