I didn't even know such a thing existed until I happened on the item while paging through a catalog.

Randee... Yes to A, but then someone wouldn't be selling you something for $20. Or, more importantly, you wouldn't buy something from someone for $20.

For us Mac users there is a free utility also named Caffeine available from http://lightheadsw.com/ that is very handy to have installed to watch movies/videos sans interruptions.

Justin did a better job than I would have, but free programs to do this have been around since the early Seventies, if not before. I used to have one, not only because the old CRT monitors had "burn-in" problems but because for some reason downloading something did not count as "activity" and the OS would kill the application.

@randee a) some folks have to work on locked down workstations that prevent changing any computer settings, of course the software solution on windows is http://www.zhornsoftware.co.uk/caffeine/index.html b) never had a problem with this

b) LCD screens are not vulnerable to burn-in
a) It does seem weird that the target audience for a technological device are people so uncomfortable with technology that they can't turn their screen saver off

But a) wouldn't just going into your computer's settings and turning off the sleep/hibernation mode do the same thing and b) what about screen burn (which the saver was designed to prevent in the first place)?
