"How many physicians, attorneys, educators (counting scientists & engineers), theologians & military read boj?

Chillin'

Above, an interesting question posed this past Sunday evening by my California correspondent (is that vague enough?).

He added, "How many of your readers are members of the original five professions?"

Now there's something I didn't know before I read his email: I'd always thought there was one more since early days.

But I digress.

I hereby announce the beginning of the first ever boj World Wide Profession Poll.

Identify your presence in one of the original five as listed in the headline up top.

You can be in more than one: for example, a physician ordained by the Universal Life Church.

When I get some numbers I'll report back here.

Assuming my crack statistics team can find its abacus.

Do I count as a teacher if I have to have a second job as well to actually pay my rent? If so, count me in! (And no, my second job is NOT in the *original* original profession.)

A Georgia correspondent poses the question, how many of your readers are bums and artistes?
(Count one so far. The professionals can decide which.)

I'm a buyer, but I've got a M.Ed. and my teaching credential doesn't expire for another two months, does that count?

I love that 6.02*10... thinks that homemaking does not require any training or education. Every mother I know reads, researches and 'seminars' on thier children. I am constantly learning about how better to do my job, (re-training) especially as my child is special needs. Every night I am 'educating' myself. Unlike a degree or Phd which has an end, parenting carries on for life.
I'm a psychologist by trade, technically a science as I have a Bsc, not BA, but I better not start the next barney!

I believe most of you are overlooking the "oldest profession"... which I believe Joe digressed from stating...

I'm unemployed, but one of those who has been ordained a minister (online) by the ULC. The certificate on my wall certainly gets weird looks from most who know me as an atheist/agnostic!

Along the same lines as Nathan's comment, I cannot imagine what requires more of a period of 'education and training,' as being a homemaker and mother. Talk about never ending studies right there but I digress....

Well since everyone is bringing out the profession and diploma cards, I'll step up and say that in a previous life, I was a television producer and editor. Those required a lot of education and training too. Harder being a homemaker though.

I'm a just retired school principal and teacher.

Happily retired...

On the other hand, the most important work I did, by far, was being parent to three children. Holy $@#%#@, what a ride.

I think homemaker is the original original profession, along with subsistence farmer :)

I'm an engineer.

Posted by: Nathan | Sep 7, 2010 1:03:04 PM

Attorney.

The original professions:

"An occupation requiring a considerable period of education and training. The original professions were in medicine, the law, the church, the army and the universities....."

No offense to homemakers.
