Ah, memories...
This was anticipated some decades ago on Martin Mull's [OK, Norman Lear's] Fernwood Tonight (later America Tonight) send-up of late-night talk shows. A guest (another comic, whose jawline promontory exceeded Jay Leno's) had cut a ping-pong ball in half and, with a rubber band holding it in place, used it to pull his jutting chin back a bit.
