Can you hum a few bars? Then SoundHound's for you
Wrote Hayley Tsukayama in the Washington Post,
"You know that tune you've been humming lately? The one that you only know a few bars of and can't identify for the life of you? Try SoundHound, a free app for Android and iOS that can solve that mystery for you. Like the popular app Shazam, SoundHound can identify a song that's playing in a store or on a passing radio. But SoundHound can also identify a song based on humming or singing — though the results vary based on the accuracy of the, ahem, input. Many songs also come with options to look at the lyrics and, of course, purchase the song on the Web."
The app is free, the way we like it.
This sounds like great fun, especially when you're with people: each of you can sing a song and see whose rendition best sparks SoundHound's memory bank.
