Farmstead Ferments — Dawn Story's artisanal products
Long story short: The other day I espied Apple Kraut from a company called Farmstead Ferments on the Relay Foods website so I ordered a jar.
That didn't last long: crunchy, piquant, inutterably fresh-tasting, it's kraut to die for.
I took a closer look at the offerings from Farmstead on the Relay Foods site and noticed three other kraut varieties — alas, all sold out.
I left a message on the Farmstead Ferments Facebook page noting how much I enjoyed my one jar and mentioning that all their other products were SOLD OUT at Relay.
Dawn Story, the proprietor, replied that she'd get on it pronto.
In the meantime, I noodled around on the Farmstead Ferments site and discovered they make about 10 different fermented foods.
I love fermented foods.
I also noted that the products are sold at a few places in my Podunk town, so I stopped by one of them — Rebecca's Natural Food in the Barracks Road Shopping Center – yesterday afternoon.
Much to my delight, they had right there in the refrigerated section not one, not two, not three, not four, but five (5!) different items from Farmstead Ferments.
I purchased one of each (pictures above) and plan on a deep dive into the world of fermentation.

The immensity of Africa
By Kai Krause.
"A small contribution in the fight against rampant Immappancy."
I featured this graphic back in 2010 but upon seeing it mentioned again in a tweet by Kirstin Butler, I thought an encore wouldn't hurt.
Once the web ensorcells Africa, there'll be no looking back.
