Helpful Hints from joeeze: Steadying stuffed peppers
Now here's something that keeps you up at night, finally put paid to.
Nancy Sullivan of Milwaukee, Wisconsin (hometown yeah!) offered the Quick Tip pictured above in the July & August 2012 issue of Cook's Illustrated.
The magazine's Shannon Friedmann Hatch, by way of introduction, wrote, "It can be tricky to stuff bell peppers since their uneven, bulbous ends make unsteady bases. [Prevent] topples with this method."

Ara Safety Pro — Wired's "Most dangerous object in the office this month"
Wrote Aaron Rowe in the July 2012 issue of Wired, "If an actual flame-and-smoke crisis ever erupts in the break room, we're ready. The Ara Safety Pro is like the do-gooder offspring of a fire extinguisher and a smoke grenade. Just pull the pin and toss the 9-pound projectile directly into the blaze. It spews a nontoxic aerosolized powder that lowers heat and chemically blocks the chain reactions that keep the fire burning."
$997.50 apiece when you buy two or more.

Long NPR story short:
The giant flightless stick insects (above and below)
on Lord Howe Island, off Australia in the South Pacific,
were believed extinct in 1920.
