Experts' Expert: Marpac Dohm White Noise Generator
"Official sound conditioner of the National Sleep Foundation."
Ever been in a therapist's office?
No?
Then you must be the only person in the U.S. who hasn't.
But I digress.
Above and below, the Marpac Dohm-NSF White Noise Generator.
For a sec there I thought it said NSFW and wondered if there was something I was missing.
Which is a given — but again, I digress.
Though you'll note I'm not apologizing for the digressions.
Jack Kent Cook once said, "Never explain, never complain."
Where was I?
Ah, yes, the white noise machine.
I wonder if they make a companion hot air device for politicians to use when they're on voice rest.
Oops, looks like another one got through.
Darn.
Wrote Joshua Fruhlinger in the Wall Street Journal: "Marpac has been making what they call 'sound conditioners' for 50 years. These devices, called Dohms, produce a rushing air sound that creates white noise that drowns out annoying sounds like the din of traffic, barking dogs, or whatever it is that keeps you up at night. I live next door to a FedEx sorting facility where they like to cycle diesel engines all night, and the Dohm was pretty effective in giving me something else to listen to. If you live on a busy street, this might be the device for you."
The machines start at $44.95.
I'm betting you'll get a whole lot more sleep bang for your buck with one of these than from a Tempur-Pedic.

HoMedics makes a whole range of electronic white noise generators for children - you can choose your background (wind, rain, crickets, white noise and - disturbingly for everyone but die-hard Edgar Allan Poe fans - a heartbeat).
