A fanboy love note to Apple about the MacBook Pro 15.4" with Retina Display

Gallery1_2256

I feel privileged to use this machine (above).

It is the apotheosis of industrial design.

For me the user experience physically and psychologically is very much like driving my 1988 Mercedes: perfect in every way.

Its way overbuilt hardware and invisible user interface are breathtaking in the way they eliminate the sense of "working on a computer."

Right now is the first time in the two or three weeks I've owned this machine (I abandoned my 13" Air — itself a wonderful computer which served as my main machine for 16 months — in its favor) I've used its keyboard and trackpad.

As a rule the laptop sits elevated on a Rain mStand with input from a Logitech Solar Wireless Keyboard and Magic Mouse.

Today I decided to use the MacBook as it was designed to be used: a portable laptop.

I set up shop in the lobby of the Renaissance Hotel in downtown Pittsburgh an hour ago (the boj World Tour 2012 is in town through tomorrow) and set out to see what would happen if I tried to create boj from here.

This is my very first experience using the MacBook's keyboard and trackpad.

Wonderful keyboard: smooth, absolutely silent, with great tactile feedback.

I've been typing nearly an hour with almost no mistakes, not nearly the case when I use the excellent Logitech keyboard.

Using the trackpad is easy and natural.

And I haven't even said a single word about the display, which is so jaw-droppingly beautiful and nearly three-dimensional, it almost begs description.

More on that another time.

I'm going to be taking this machine out a lot more often — because it's just too great not to.

I disagree, I want to hear the love. I had an imac/G/5 "hybrid", a 1 body-2 brained monster (don't ask), that I loved in spite of it's obvious obsolescence. Sadly, it finally "kernel panicked" its way to mac heaven. The 13 inch pro has been the stand-in for a few months, but it's, well, small. Thought I'd replace the monster with a new imac, but now, you make me want that retina display. I say, keep the fanboy stuff coming. It makes me feel vindicated to those that say I'm just paying for a name.
