BehindTheMedspeak: Insomnia (Blast from the Past)

Insomnia_poster

It's been over 8 years since this post originally appeared and you still don't look like you're getting a good night's sleep.

Sleep hygiene is where it's at.

Where can you get some?

Start here.

Another good resource here.

Below, the original October 8, 2004 post.

••••••••••••••••••••••••••

"One of the features of having chronic insomnia is that you sleep better away from your own home," according to Dr. Rafael Pelayo, a sleep expert at Stanford University School of Medicine.

I would go further: this behavior is pathognomonic for insomnia.

Well, now what?

Try better sleep hygiene, as a first step.

I can almost guarantee you that if you're plagued by insomnia, you're not doing what the sleep experts advise.

Try it.

In the not-all-that-distant future, there's gonna be a link here to a live infra-red webcam right next to my computer and bed so you can lie awake watching me sleep.

That ought to cure anyone's insomnia.

Note added today: Since the original 2004 post, Gray Cat has come on board.

Thus, the upcoming live infra-red sleepcam will feature the two of us cozily snuggled in for the night.

Hmm. It probably depends on where you are when you fall asleep. I remember falling asleep a couple of times (long ago) in the middle of concerts. Not as a member of the audience. That's what you call unengaged.

I just keep going until I fall asleep. It is better to burn out than fade away.
