Apple shows the way: Red for Right

Rrr copy

I've been banging on for years about the simplicity and elegance of putting the R on the right earphone or earbud in red so you don't have to try to find and then read the tiny letter.

Guess what?

On Apple's new earpods for the Gen 7 nano, they've gone and done just that.

To be sure, they couldn't bring themselves to go all Full Monty and do the same with the iPhone's earpods, but it's a start.

In the photo up top, the [Red R] nano earbud is on the right and the iPhone iteration on the left.

Big UPS to my favorite company and to the person there who decided to think different.

This one, hey, it's not rocket surgery.

Unfortunately for every other vehicular marking (aircraft and ships)the red goes on the left. The exception is fixed navigational beacons headed towards an anchorage/harbor when you keep the red markers on your right and the green on your left ("red right returning").

I don't know, the majority of earbuds/earphones I bough were clearly marked.

Look, Doc, I can expect a large portion of the population to screw up which ear is for the Right channel and which ear is the Left channel in a Stereo feed. I don't expect you to have that problem! Nor would Flautist or any other musically-trained individual flub the Right and Left channels in a Stereo feed!

If you can hear a split second sound you damn well know your right ear from your left.

Put simply for those of us mere mortals who like our Stereo music: if ya put the headphones on wrong the band is playing BEHIND YOU!!! Jeez Louise, the mic is in Front of the Musician when the record is made. Put the headphones on correctly and you will hear the performance as you would in person: facing the music!

This is how civilizations end!
