The origin of "Dueling Banjos"

This song was an instant hit when the 1972 movie "Deliverance" introduced it to the world.

According to Daniel E. Slotnick's April 8, 2014's XXX New York Times obituary of Arthur Smith, it was based on "Feudin' Banjos," Smith's bluegrass tune recorded with Don Reno in 1955.

Smith died on April 3 of this year at the age of 93 at his home in Charlotte, North Carolina.
