Most Beautiful Tool Ever: Crystal Hand Ax, 2000 BCE
The hatchet was found in 2006, 2,900 meters above the Olpererhütte near the Pfitscherjoch in the Zillertal.
It was not until years later, in 2012, that it was recognized as a sensational discovery some 4,000 years old.
Thomas Bachnetzer of the Institute of Archeology at the University of Innsbruck said, "The ax probably dates from the end of the Neolithic period or the beginning of the Bronze Age. From these epochs there are scarcely any large rock crystal artefacts: a hatchet is otherwise not known at all."
