"Darker Than You Think" — Jack Williamson

5aa76b8a25eadd094117978bb6f811af--than-you-books-to-read

This 1948 novel by one of the giants of science fiction is so good I'm going to read it again twenty years or so after I first came across it.

Rereading is something I almost never do.

You may be familiar with philosopher Thomas Nagel's classic 1974 essay, "What is it like to be a bat?"

If not, you can get up to speed here.

What is it like to be a cat?

Williamson's book takes you as far into the mind — and body — of a big cat as you'll ever get until VR/AR/AI hit their stride, which should be real soon now.

heh

But I digress.

Powerful stuff, best read at night when it's really quiet....

Easy Read Clock

90882_1000x1000

Just the thing for those who, like me, are sometimes not oriented to day, date, and time (as we like to check on when we do a quick neurological/psychiatric examination).

But I digress.

From the website:

••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

This desktop clock displays the day, date, and time in easy-to-read-numbers and words.

It has 1.5"-high digits that can be clearly read from across a room, and presents both the day of the week and A.M./P.M. in bold uppercase letters.

The clock shows the calendar date — including month and year — spelled out across the bottom.

It can also display days and months in Spanish, French, German, Italian, Polish, Dutch, or Welsh [!], as well as a 12- or 24-hour format.

The 8" LED screen is set behind dark tinted glass to eliminate glare.

8.5" x 6.75" x 1".

Plugs into AC.

Alas, it won't answer the question "Who's your daddy?"

No matter.

$89.95.

N.B. My Crack Research Team©® was all over me to post this on April 24 but hey, I'm not even buying green bananas anymore.

I say "Strike while the iron is hot" while I'm still able to fog a mirror.
