'In skating over thin ice, our safety is in our speed'
So wrote Ralph Waldo Emerson.
In November I brought you Yaktrax (below)
and STABILicers, attachments to let you make your way surefootedly on ice.
Not cheap, those devices: $19.95 for Yaktrax ($27.95 for the Yaktrax Pro), $49.95 for STABILicers (below).
Well, now comes a low-cost alternative: Ice Treads (top of this post).
No fancy name, no tricked-out design, just "lightweight, heavy-duty" rubber treads with four stainless-steel cleats under each shoe to grip the frost and snow and keep you upright.
Nice price, too: $4.99 a pair.

I received Yaktraks for Christmas. To be honest I Wondered if I would ever use them. That is until we recieved freezing rain for New Years. I highly recommend them for winter walking and running. While cars where sliding off the road I was jogging on ice covered sidewalks. Also great to avoid falling on your butt while shoveling snow.

Joe - I can now confirm that the Stabilicers work like a charm. My experience with those of less sturdy build is that they work for a while then break. My Stabilicers allow me to walk with a normal gait on a sheet of ice. Quite nice!
Thanks for all your efforts! - Matt
