Egg McToaster

The Egg & Muffin Toaster is just out from Back to Basics, the small Bluffdale, Utah company that introduced the Smoothie Maker blenders that sold in the millions a few years ago.

The new device toasts your muffin and poaches your egg at the same time so you can enjoy them together.

But wait a minute: do you actually know anyone who eats poached eggs for breakfast on a routine basis?

Or eats them at all?

Didn't think so.

Anyway, 350,000 of the black toasters have already been pre–sold for the holidays.

Vicky Hallett of U.S. News & World Report raved about the device, saying it made great sandwiches 25 times in a row when she tested it.

Walmart sells them and they'll be available at Bed, Bath & Beyond and all the other usual places.

$38.82 here.

oh wow... i just looked at their website and did the demo... I totally want one now! You can cook a patty or tomatos at the same time!

IMHO very clever, perfect for singles or yuppie couples.

I do! I do! I eat poached eggs all the time... when well done they're my fav. type of eggs. This would be perfect for me as the egg poacher I have is really meant to make 6 eggs. I don't find them quite the same when done in plastic in the microwave (yes, very fussy)

I'd consider the toaster... if it didn't look so darn complicated to clean.

I eat poached eggs on the weekend. Preferably with hollandaise sauce and a slice of ham on my English muffin. But I have a gadget that poaches eggs in the microwave that was only $2 - and I have a toaster, so even this kitchen gadget freak would pass on this one.

My prediction? It'll go the same way as those hot dog-making machine gadgets and be on the 1/2 price rack after Christmas.

Something else to take up space--in the closet. Looks like such fun to clean, too.
