Is August A. Busch IV, CEO of Anheuser–Busch, made of wax?

Busch

The reason I ask is because I find his TV commercials for Budweiser absolutely irresistible no matter how many times I see them.

I find that, like most commercials, they are better appreciated with the sound off but in Busch's case that goes times ten.

The make–up job that he underwent before going on camera is astounding: it looks as if his skin is some sort of Philip K. Dick repliSkin or some such facsimile, it's so waxy and plastic looking.

There are no lines visible, even when Busch speaks or smiles.

Truly amazing.

That's why I wonder if they didn't borrow one of those animatronic robots from Madam Tussaud's so that Busch could go about his important CEO activities.

I mean, the guy's only 40 — surely the embalming kit can wait a decade or two, what?

Does anyone know the name of Mr. Busch's (IV) assistant? Their email and/or phone number?

Please email me back if you have it.

Probably the dead young girl's family cares.

Susan - It's in the past, who cares.

The fourth was married today in VT to a 22 year old BC grad - horses and all. Maybe now that he has a ring on his left hand he'll proudly show it off.

Am I the only one that remembers that Augie IV crashed a car while under the influence back in the 80s when he was attending the U of A down in Tucson. A girl died and he literally walked. Now he's the face of Bud, telling us to be responsible with alcohol. Give me a break!

Posted by: Susan | Aug 1, 2006 7:24:33 PM

I've been a Bud drinker for over 20 years- (I know the small print on the label in English and French) and I think you guys are just mad the commercials don't have jiggly girls in skimpy bathing suits bringing guys buds at the pool. So he's a rich, good looking, refined, well spoken guy who was born to a certain family. You are right- Budweiser normally caters to the beer chucking, redneck Nascar types, so A/B might be at fault for not coming up with an Anheiser wine and letting August IV peddle that.

Holly, those statements are just plain retarded even on a good day.

Anyway, so, has anyone else noticed the hand thing? Really, just look for it. His left hand is ALWAYS off camera in each commercial.

Holly, while I agree with almost everything you said, I must quibble with one of your basic statements. You say "If you want to get where he is at ... then I suggest a change in attitude." Let's face it; August Busch IV got where he's at by being born.

Okay fellas, let's face it -- no pun intended. When it boils down to it, by the remarks you have made, you guys are simply jealous that a man who is that successful, smart and young, is good-looking as well. If you want to get where he is at, which is what appears to be the underlying case, then I suggest a change in attitude. You can stop being negative about someone else, stop being jealous, and do what he did to get to where he is at. That would be the positive step to take. Quiet frankly, he is the perfect spokesperson for this product. It is, after all, his company for the most part. Although I do not drink myself, I think, from a professional view point, these commercials are attractive, inviting, distinct and to the point. They get the job done and the product sells. Advertisement is 95% eye candy, 5% product to the average consumer. A-B commercials in general, reach out to a wide age range of the low, middle and upper-class drinking members of society. To me, that says a lot about advertising in general. There you have it.

Hey,

The issue isn't his face. I have seen half a dozen of these commercials now, and not once do you see his left hand - it's always off-camera. Seriously. I thought that perhaps he was married and trying to market to single people without showing the ring, but a few articles online indicate that he's single. Go figure. maybe he's got a gimp hand?

Augie's not the best choice for corporate spokesman. It's clear that the only reason he's in the commercials is that he's "the boss." There's nothing compelling about this pretty-boy.
