OpenOffice is the brain child of Mitch Kapor, founder of Lotus, who aims to liberate users from MSFT office products, and then further liberate users with a bunch of cool features MSFT office doesn't offer yet. There are a bunch of cool people working on this project here in downtown SF...and Mitch has been funding it personally...for the past few years...
