My favorite cartoon

Pict0002_2

Above, by Jack Ziegler.

When I first saw it in the New Yorker many years ago, I was dumbstruck.

So perfect.

So true.

So sad.

The version pictured above โ€” old, yellow, spotted, torn, taped and cracked, missing pieces here and there โ€” has been on one or another of my refrigerators since forever.

And will be until I drop dead.

No doubt a fat check will arrive later that day.

Reminded me of my favorite cartoon, also from many years ago. I think I cut it out of the National Lampoon in the early eighties. Still got the original, though I scanned it years ago for occasions like this.

Well, what is it doing OFF your refrigerator now? Then again, maybe that has broken the spell, and your fat check IS on its way, even without your dropping dead first. But you'd better get it back up on the fridge, just in case.

(See, if it was me, the Great Universal Jokester would hear me say "fat check" and send me an overweight Czechoslovakian to fix the broken handle on my toilet tank or something.)

For only $100 you can get a nice 12x16 matted print of it... :-)
