Medac — Not just a song on 'The Who Sell Out'

Medac_anesthesia_ad

"Henry Pond had no fun, had a face like a currant bun" — that's how the song "Medac," the ninth track on The Who's great (and underappreciated) 1967 album (their third), begins.

Okay.

Then the other day I was paging through my monthly Anesthesiology News and lo and behold on page seven there was the full page ad pictured up top.

What's that all about?

Is it a subliminal message to me?

A sign?

An inside joke?

Or just coincidence?

I read once in a spy novel that there is no such thing as coincidence.

So that's ruled out.

Which one of the others, then?

Below,

Bhbkhbhbh

the late, much-lamented drummer of The Who Keith Moon holding a tube of Medac, as depicted on the original album cover.

You could look it up.
