The Ballad of Katie Das
Catchy, what?
Now all we need is the song.
But I digress.
My favorite caramel fabricator was featured last week in a story by Mike Sula that appeared in Chicago Reader.
In it I learned all about her unlikely path to the top of sticky mountain.
Bonus: Katie let them into the Das Foods Caramelini factory for a world exclusive look at the creation of a 50 pound batch of her Candied Ginger and Pistachio caramels (my favorite among the eight varieties currently offered).
The video appears up top.
I watched (and listened) with rapt fascination as Katie narrated the seemingly simple, labor-intensive and artisanal process of creating her jewel-like, meticulously crafted pieces of gustatory heaven.
Time to reorder.
