'76 Reasonable Questions to Ask About Any Technology' — by Jacques Ellul

An intriguing title, no?

Among them: "What does it allow us to ignore?"

The French philosopher offers a bracing counterpoint to those who believe the Singularity can't come soon enough.

I know someone like that....

"What does it allow us to ignore?"

Couldn't agree more...I've been involved with a few never been attempted technologies over the years, and most had to do with my sheer laziness and ability to concentrate on the mundane. According to the company that claims to have invented web-based student testing, I was about three years previous (and in actual implementation).

This came about from the desire not to actually have to travel between three campuses and install my software every time I made an update. I never told anyone in my organization, which might have screwed me on patent royalties, but at the same time, I was able to spend those days I would have been nerding out, tempting the co-eds.
